June 18 marks the 14th anniversary of the detention of 48 Palestinians, released within Wafaa Al-Ahrar swap deal, by Israeli occupation forces, the Palestinian Prisoners Club stated on Saturday, June 17, 2023.
On October 11, 2011, an agreement was reached between the Palestinian resistance and the Israeli occupation with an Egyptian meditation to release 1027 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons.
Wafaa Al-Ahrar was the name of the swap deal reached after long negotiations. Under the deal, 1027 Palestinian prisoners, including 27 women, were released from Israeli prisons.
Palestinian-released prisoners were sent to Gaza Strip, West Bank, and 1948-occupied lands. 203 others were deported outside Palestine.
Because Israel has never abided by the agreements and conventions, the Israeli forces re-arrest dozens of Palestinians who were released within the Wafaa Al-Ahrar exchange deal.
On June 18, 2014, Israeli occupation forces re-arrested 70 prisoners who were released as part of the Wafa Al-Ahrar deal, which was concluded in 2011 with Egyptian mediation.
The occupation authorities re-imposed the previous charges on 50 of the re-arrested prisoners. Currently, Israeli occupation authorities still hold 48 of them inside the prisons under horrific conditions.
With the approach of the Wafaa Al-Ahrar anniversary every year, Palestinians renew calls on the international community to intervene to release the Wafaa Al-Ahrar re-arrestees.
