DaysofPal- Since the start of its offensive in the northern West Bank on January 21, the Israeli occupation forces have arrested at least 365 Palestinians from the Jenin and Tulkarem governorates.
According to a statement from the Palestinian Prisoners Society, Israel “continues to escalate its arrest operations and on-site investigations, particularly in the Jenin governorate and its refugee camp, as well as in Tulkarem and its camps, since the beginning of the current aggression.”
These actions, according to the group, are a part of Israel’s systematic and continuous arrest policy, which has become more intense since the start of the genocidal war.
The statement further highlighted that these escalating arrest operations are accompanied by “summary executions, direct shootings or threats, severe beatings, and on-site investigations affecting hundreds of people.”
The Israeli occupation forces have also surrounded homes with military barracks and taken Palestinians hostage. Other homes have been targeted for demolition, dynamiting, and burning, along with deliberate destruction of infrastructure, according to society.
The statement also noted that Israel has arrested nearly 14,500 Palestinians from the West Bank since October 7, 2023.
Israel began a massive military operation in the occupied West Bank a few days after the ceasefire in Gaza went into force, escalating attacks and making mass arrests, especially in the northern region of the territory.
This assault forcibly displaced more than 40,000 Palestinians from their homes in the Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nur Shams refugee camps. Israeli forces, claiming to target Palestinian armed groups, demolished thousands of homes, destroyed roads and infrastructure, and arrested hundreds of Palestinians.
In a significant escalation on Sunday, the Israeli army deployed tanks to Jenin for the first time in more than 20 years. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that troops would remain in several refugee camps in the occupied West Bank for over a year, and that displaced Palestinians would not be allowed to return to their homes.
