DaysofPal- Gaza Civil Defense teams recovered the bodies of 30 Palestinians from a mass grave discovered inside the grounds of al-Shifa Medical Complex on Wednesday, as search operations entered their fourth consecutive day.
These bodies return to people who were seized and killed by Israeli occupation forces, then buried in a mass grave in the yards of the hospital.
In a press statement, Civil Defense crews said they have been exhuming bodies from makeshift and unmarked burial sites across Gaza City, many of which were created during periods of intense bombardment when families were unable to reach cemeteries.
Today’s excavation revealed a mass grave containing more than thirty bodies within the walls of al-Shifa Hospital.
The agency said its teams are still working on recovering additional remains, estimating the total number of bodies awaiting retrieval at more than 300.
Civil Defense and rescue teams continue to extract bodies from beneath the rubble of buildings and homes destroyed during the Israeli genocidal war.
According to the Ministry of Health, crews are struggling to reach victims buried under hundreds of destroyed structures due to a severe shortage of heavy machinery, including excavators and other essential equipment.
Despite the ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025, Israeli occupation forces continue to block the entry of hundreds of heavy machines needed to remove vast quantities of debris across the Strip.
Government Media Office data shows that Israel’s two-year genocidal war obliterated 90% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure, leaving behind more than 70 million tons of rubble, a scale rescue officials describe as one of the region’s largest humanitarian disasters in decades.
Civil Defense officials note that dozens of families continue to send appeals for help in recovering the remains of their relatives months after their deaths.
However, without the necessary machinery, responders say they are unable to reach many of the bodies trapped beneath collapsed buildings.
The discovery of today’s mass grave at al-Shifa adds to growing evidence of widespread, unexamined burial sites across the Strip, formed under conditions of extreme danger and collapse of essential services during the height of Israeli military operations.
Rescue teams say their work will continue, though slowly and under immense constraints, as they race to identify and return the remains of those killed during the war to their families.
