The UN Children’s Fund (Unicef) reported that nine out of ten children in Gaza are experiencing severe food poverty as a result of the ongoing Israel’s war on Gaza, which has led to traverse humanitairian aid lines from reaching almost all areas in the Gaza enclave, especially in the north.
“Children in Gaza continue to suffer unimaginably from this war,” the UN agency for Palestinian refugees said in a post to X social media.
A Unicef official, Msr, Ingram, previously told Al-Jazeera that they she was shocked by the news that some children in northern Gaza had to eat rats because he was a victim of famine policies ‘Israel’ disseminated in the north.
“Omar, 7, had just arrived from northern Gaza, and he had to eat rats. This is unacceptable and this is my concern, many like 7-year-old Omar are threatened with death,” Mrs. Ingram told Al Jazeera as during her recent visit to the Middle area.
Meanwhile, according to Oxfam, “many” people in Gaza “spend entire days without food”.
A report published in April by Oxfam uncovered the level of acuteness of famine Palestinians in northern Gaza are shockingly facing.
As ‘Israel’ continues to choke aid flows into the Gaza enclave, civilians in northern Gaza are now consuming less than 12% of the recommended daily 2,100 calories needed.
This means that they are surviving on only less than one can of fava beans, an average of 245 calories per day, according to Oxfam, while, the total food deliveries allowed into Gaza for the entire 2.2 million population amounted to an average of just 41% of the daily calories needed per person.
“Israel is making deliberate choices to starve civilians. Imagine what it is like, not only to be trying to survive on 245 calories day in, day out, but also having to watch your children or elderly relatives do the same,” said Amitabh Behar, Oxfam’s executive director.
“No child should face such horrific conditions: #CeasefireNow,” Unrwa concluded in its post.
According to Gaza Government Media Office, 75% of the victims of Gaza war were sadly children and women. 15,328, innocent child were murdered in this heinous war, including 31 who died of famine, marking the highest number of children victims whose lives were claimed due to the violence of war over history. Meanwhile, 17,000 children have been living without their parents or one of them.
