The United Nations has issued a stark warning about the water crisis in Gaza, where displaced families are being forced to use “dirty sea water” due to a severe lack of clean water.
This situation has arisen as Israeli forces continue to destroy essential infrastructure and keep Gaza’s borders closed, preventing vital humanitarian relief from entering.
Health Risks
The UNRWA, the agency for Palestinian refugees, emphasized the critical need for access to clean water, describing it as essential for the health and “survival of hundreds of thousands across the Gaza Strip.”
The UNRWA highlighted the deteriorating conditions via social media, stating, “Increasing heat & lack of hygiene are making an already dire situation far worse,” and sharing video footage of children collecting water from the sea along Gaza’s coastline.
The ongoing destruction and blockade have severely impacted Gaza’s infrastructure, leaving residents with no option but to turn to unsafe water sources, thus exacerbating the already critical humanitarian crisis.
