Abbas sets the date for the general Palestinian elections; Hamas welcomes

The Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas issued this Friday evening a presidential decree regarding holding general elections in three stages.

According to the decree, legislative elections will be held on 5/22/2021, and the presidential elections on 7/31/2021 provided that the results of the Legislative Council elections are considered the first stage in the formation of the Palestinian National Council provided that the National Council is completed on 8/31/2021 according to the basic system to the Palestine Liberation Organization and the national understandings so that elections for the National Council are to be held wherever possible.

This came after Abbas received the head of the Central Elections Committee, Hanna Nasir, this evening, at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, where he directed the election commission and all state agencies to start launching a democratic election campaign in all governorates of the homeland, including Jerusalem, and to initiate a national dialogue focusing on Mechanisms of this process.

Meanwhile, Hamas movement welcomed the presidential decree that set the date for the general, legislative and presidential elections and the National Council.
