The United Nations Human Rights Office stated Tuesday that Israel’s killing of civilians in Gaza during a military operation to release four Israeli hostages might constitute war crimes.
Jeremy Laurence, spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office, expressed serious concerns regarding the conduct of the raid in a densely populated area in Al-Nuseirat camp.
“The manner in which the raid was conducted in such a densely populated area seriously calls into question whether the principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution – as set out under the laws of war – were respected by the Israeli forces,” Jeremy Laurence said.
The Israeli government reported that an operation, accompanied by an air assault, was carried out on Saturday in the heart of the Nuseirat refugee camp to free four Israeli hostages, who were survived alive.
According to health officials in Gaza, the Israeli occupation military operation resulted in the killing of over 270 Palestinians.
Eyewitness accounted further disclosed that ‘Israel’ allegedly used humanitarian aid trucks to gain entry to the area before initiating the attack.
