UNICEF has warned that Oxygen supply will cease if fuel delivery to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital continues to be interrupted, endangering the lives of more than 20 newborns.
Al Aqsa Hospital in Deir Al-Balah also warned of an imminent health catastrophe if fuel is not supplied to the hospital within hours.
Late on Thursday, May 23rd, the Gaza Health Ministry announced that Al-Aqsa Hospital will run out of fuel within the next 30 minutes, endangering the lives of patients, including babies relying on incubators, and individuals undergoing surgeries due to injuries inflicted by Israeli forces.
“The hospital considers this to be an attempt to pressure the already struggling medical staff and healthcare sector into ceasing hospital operations completely in the Gaza Strip,” hospital’s administration said.
Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah is one of the few remaining operational hospitals across the Gaza Strip. It provides medical care and health services to more than 1,200 patients and injured individuals.
The Ministry appealed to the international community and all international and UN organizations to supply 50,000 liters of fuel to the hospital within the coming hours to prevent a health catastrophe affecting hundreds of patients and injured individuals.
It also warned that any delay in supplying the fuel would effectively be a death sentence for these patients and injured individuals.
The already-deteriorated health system in Gaza has been collapsed after 231 days of war, in which 186 health institutions were targeted by the Israeli occupation.
33 hospitals have been rendered out of service by the Israeli attacks, 55 of health centers that the Israeli occupation took over are now out of service. 126 ambulances were targeted by the Israeli airstrikes, according to Government Media Office in Gaza.
