A hospital in northern Gaza has reported 50 cases of child malnutrition within just one week, according to Anadolu Agency.
Hossam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, disclosed this alarming figure in a statement issued on Sunday.
“The health system in Gaza is a target of the [Israeli] occupation, but we are trying to resume medical services at a minimum despite fuel shortages,” Abu Safiya stated.
He described the situation in Gaza as “catastrophic” and warned that “the specter of famine looms over the Gaza Strip.”
The ongoing war and Israeli-imposed restrictions have severely limited access to essential resources such as food, water, medicine, and fuel.
The humanitarian crisis has worsened following the Israeli occupation army’s takeover of the Rafah land crossing with Egypt on May 7, despite international warnings.
Since last October, Israel has continued its brutal offensive on Gaza, ignoring a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire.
